PHIL JONES - AUSTRALIAN DIDGERIDOO WORKSHOP
Friday, February 18, 2005 ~ 7-9:30pm
Australian Sound
Therapist Phil Jones will teach you how to play the didgeridoo - a mesmerizing
drone instrument used for centuries in ceremony and healing by the Aboriginal
clans of Australia. This interactive workshop will focus on creating a deep
and serene state of consciousness...enhancing healing, meditation, creativity
and prayer. We will be immersing ourselves in soothing vibrations and resonant
harmonics... gently clearing away stagnant residues of stress and tension from
our minds and bodies. We'll learn simple breathing techniques that will effectively
erase the subconscious 'chatter' in our minds...creating a peaceful mental canvas
of clarity and focus. "I made a connection with the layers of harmonics
and my inner being, a correlation between the sound and my spiritual energy"
said Phil. He has been a professional recording artist for the past 35 years.
He spent seven years studying Bhakta yoga with a Hindu saint, Swami Ambikananda
in London. Highly inspired by his study Phil pioneered the merging of sacred
East Indian mantras into a Western musical context during the 1960's and 1970's
with his band Quintessence (Island/RCA). He is featured performing and teaching
the Didgeridoo on the IMAX DVD: 'Sydney - A story of a City.'
